YouTube announces impending shutdown

Video-sharing site says it was started as a contest for the world’s best video

April Fools! It's heartening to see that YouTube, massive though it is, still has a sharp sense of humor and love for self-effacing comedy. The website's April Fools' Day prank for the year teases viewers with news of the site's imminent shutdown. YouTube was started as a contest, they say, and because it’s time to pick a “winner,” the end of YouTube is upon us. This will also include deleting everything people uploaded (and thus requiring millions of people to get a life). The nostalgic cameo appearances by a few viral stars are a nice touch, too.
