Twitter index: MTV Video Music Awards, QPR, Windows 8

For the second day in a row Twitter users are sharing their excitement regarding this year's MTV Video Music Awards. The two artists with the most nominations this year are Rhianna and Drake who both have five. Also nominated this year in the category "Best Video" is British-Irish boy band One Direction for "What Makes You Beautiful"; One Direction fans are notoriously tweet-happy and appear to be a significant force in keeping "MTV Video Music Awards" trending for the second day in a row.

English Premier League football club Queens Park Rangers (QPR) are also trending worldwide Thursday after it was announced that the club are set to sign Real Madrid midfielder Esteban Granero for around €11 million. Granero is the latest in a string of high-profile players that have either signed for, or been linked to, the London club this summer.

English football also causes Dimitar Berbatov to trend in fourth place after it was announced that the Manchester United striker is due to move over to Fulham.

Also causing a buzz on Twitter Thursday is Windows 8: the new touchscreen-centric operating system from Microsoft is due to launch around October and is the OS of many mobile devices currently being launched at consumer electronics fair IFA in Berlin.
