Second-placed trending topic "RIP Megan Fox" is the latest attempt by the microblogging community to "kill off" celebrities.

Despite 140-character statements to the contrary, the 26-year-old American actress and model does, in fact, appear to be alive.

The fashion for Twitter users to trend untrue reports of celebrities' deaths on the microblogging site has been around for a while. Other celebrities that have been the source of such rumors include Kanye West, Justin Bieber and even US President Barrack Obama.

Elsewhere on Twitter the transfer window, in which football clubs in the English Premier League can buy or sell players, is also causing a buzz. On Thursday this buzz largely surrounds Joe Cole, who is expected to finalize a move from Liverpool to West Ham later today or tomorrow.
