Twitter index: Mahatma Gandhi's 143rd birthday

Gandhi, leader of Indian nationalism in British-ruled India and known for his non-violent approach to civil disobedience, was born on October 2, 1869, and today marks the 143rd year since his birth. Twitter users are celebrating the civil leader's birthday by sharing short inspirational quotes attributed to Gandhi.

There are also several Twitter accounts attributed to Mahatma Gandhi which regularly share his words of wisdom with fellow microbloggers, the most popular of which is @MahatmaGandhi, which has in excess of 29,000 followers. Other Gandhi-related Twitter accounts include @Gandhi_Wisdom and @mahatmagandhi.
