Twitter index: International Day of the Girl, San Marino

October 11 was designated International Day of the Girl, or Día International de la Niña, by the UN on December 6, 2011.

Spanish-speaking Twitter users are celebrating the event and discussing issues facing girls around the world, causing the event's name to trend in seventh position on the Twitter chart.

Also causing a buzz is football team San Marino, which faces England at Wembley Stadium on Friday night. San Marino, who once lost 13-0 to Germany, is considered by FIFA to be one of the world's worst teams, ranked 207 -- joint last with Bhutan and Turks and Caicos Islands -- in the world ranking of international teams.
