Twitter index: Halloween, Saci Day, McFly on Radio 1

With Halloween taking place, microbloggers are taking to Twitter to share their plans for the evening.

Also on a spooky note, Twitter users in Brazil are celebrating "Saci day," which honors one of the best-known figures in Brazilian folklore. Saci is a one-legged youngster who smokes a pipe, has holes in his hands and wears a magical red cap which enables him to appear and disappear. He is typically considered a prankster but can also, at times, be dangerous.

Saci Day was officially created in 2005 to help prevent Brazilian folklore from getting swept away by the onset of Western practices such as Halloween and is also celebrated on October 31.

Also causing a stir is rock/pop band McFly, which was in the studios of the British Broadcasting Channel's Radio 1 this afternoon. Using the hashtag "#R1McFly," Twitter users are sharing their love of the British band, which first broke into the music scene in 2004. The group is currently promoting a collection of greatest hits called Memory Lane: The Best Of McFly, due out on November 26.

With November just around the corner, Twitter users are also sharing their hopes for the month under the hashtag "NovemberWishes" and, perhaps a little prematurely, talking about their Christmas plans under the trending topic of "Xmas."
