Eid al-Adha, also known as the "Feat of the Sacrifice" or the "Major" or "Greater" festival, is a three-day Muslim holiday which this year begins on October 26.
The holiday, celebrated by Muslims around the world, honors Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael as an act of obedience to God.
Twitter users are prematurely wishing one another a happy Eid and discussing plans for the upcoming festival. One Direction fans in particular are wishing Zayn Malik, member of the British-Irish boyband a "Happy Eid," pushing "#MuslimZaynMalikHappyEid" to the top of the worldwide trends.
Also causing a buzz on the microblog is Windows 8, the new operating system from Microsoft which is due to be unveiled on October 26. The new OS, which will not run on the first versions of the Microsoft Surface tablet, presents a whole new design for the OS, including the use of "tiles" from which to launch programs, and supports touchscreen interface where possible.
Hurricane Sandy is also causing a stir after battering Jamaica on October 24 and then moving on to the island of Cuba, where winds of up to 160 km/ph uprooted trees and wrecked power lines. Follow the hurricane's path via the National Hurricane Center at: nhc.noaa.gov
