Academics and scientists have confirmed the discovery of the skeleton of Richard III, the King of England from 1483-85, under a car park in Leicester.

The skeleton was discovered last year and has since been undergoing a series of tests to determine if it is in fact that of King Richard III; on Monday scientists confirmed that the battle-scarred skeleton is indeed that of the former king.

Richard III, the last king from the House of York, ruled England from 1483 to 1485 before meeting his end at the battle of Bosworth field, the decisive battle in the War of the Roses, a civil war fought in England between the House of York and the House of Lancaster for the throne of England.

It is likely that the remains of the former King of England will be transferred to Leicester Cathedralearly next year.
