Twitter index: Australia earthquake, Adidas shoe controversy
Twitter users around the world are reacting to news of a 5.2 earthquake in Melbourne, Australia. Reports indicate that the earthquake did not cause any casualties or damage, leading Melbourne comedian Steele Saunders (@SteeleSaunders) to tweet, "My heart goes out to Melbourne's Jenga community... #melbquake#melbearthquake," taking the event somewhat less than seriously.
Also causing a buzz today is sportswear giant Adidas's decision to withdraw shoes designed by Jeremy Scott that featured what could be interpreted as shackles as part of their design. This design has led many reports to nickname the shoes "slave shoes" or "shackle shoes."
The decision to withdraw the trainers came after an ad on Adidas's Facebook page ahead of the shoes' August release attracted criticism.
Microbloggers are also sharing their fears, pains and phobias under "#10WorstFeelings" and talking about Microsoft's new Surface tablet, which was unveiled on June 18.
