Oprah: Microsoft Surface feels like a Merc

Microsoft’s new Surface tablet has the feel of a German luxury car, according to talk show diva Oprah Winfrey.

Released a week ago, the Surface was featured in “Oprah’s Favourite Things 2012”, a holiday guide for the pre-Christmas shopping blitz.

"The full-size keyboard built right into the cover makes work easy, the very smart kickstand makes watching a movie or Skyping a friend a delight, the less than a pound-and-a-half weight makes a great alternative to a laptop, and the many other features make it fun for work and play. Now, that's a wowser!" – Oprah Winfrey

Not everyone likes the Surface, however. Apple chief Tim Cook called it a "compromised, confusing product".

The Surface is Microsoft’s first tablet and is making an attempt to stand out from competitors like the iPad, by featuring a full-sized keyboard and USB port that will likely appeal to practical-minded consumers. It runs on the new Windows 8 operating system, which features a customizable start screen based on ‘live tiles’ that display the latest news, weather, pictures or other items at the user’s preference.
