Bloomberg.com has reported that Apple may be planning to release a smaller iPad to compete with the incoming tablets from rivals Google and Microsoft.
The new model will reportedly have a screen that measures between 7 and 8 inches diagonally, which is smaller than the 9.7 inch screen of the iPad.
The release of such a device may hinder Google and Microsoft's plans to take a slice of the lucrative tablet market, which is already saturated with products. Google has recently announced its Nexus 7 tablet, while Microsoft also recently revealed their Surface tablet.
Both of Apple's competitors are betting big with their respective devices. A less-than-stellar launch of either the Nexus 7 or Surface could prove to be a damaging blow to both companies.
