"Safer Internet Day"  was created to encourage internet users to take some time to consider how they could better protect the private information they share on the web and how they could keep others, particularly children, safe.

Each year the event has a particular theme: this year's is "online rights and responsibilities" and hopes to encourage users to "connect with respect." In honor of Safer Internet Day, events are being organized around the world; for more information about these events see: http://www.saferinternetday.org/web/guest.

Additionally, to mark Safer Internet Day, software giant Google has updated its "Good to know" guide about internet safety at http://www.google.com/goodtoknow/.

Also causing a buzz on Google+ Tuesday is social networking site Facebook which celebrated its ninth birthday on Monday, February 4. Over the last nine years the site has grown from an exclusive network for students at college, reached a milestone 50 million members in 2007 and now is the world's largest social networking site with 1.06 billion active monthly users.
