Roku produces smart-TV set-top boxes that give consumers access to both free and subscription video streaming channels such as Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime, for example.

Though the company will not be unveiling any new hardware at this year's CES, it has announced that it will be adding 300 new live-streaming channels to its service. These channels include TWC TV, which will be available to Time Warner Cable subscribers at no extra charge (US only); YouTube rival Dailymotion (US, Canada, UK, Ireland) and PBS's children's channel PBS Kids (US only).

The addition of these channels, and the deal with Time Warner, could mean that Roku boxes will essentially replace set-top cable boxes for Time Warner subscribers and increase the competition between Roku and the genre's other major player -- Apple TV.

Apple does not have a presence at CES, which runs January 8-11 in Las Vegas. See cesweb.org for further details.

Also trending today is "Project Shield," a handheld gaming device running on Android that enables users to both play games from the Google Play store and stream them direct from their PC -- provided it is compatible. The device, from Nvidia, will drop at this year's CES.

Elsewhere on Google+, users are sharing images of shoes under "#ShoesMonday" and atmospheric images under the hashtag "MoodyMonday."
