Google+ trends: Phelps, Bieber, Google Checkout

The Summer Olympics has seen American swimmer Michael Phelps become the most decorated Olympic athlete of all time with 19 medals, causing his name to be the top trend on Google+. The Olympics are also trending in fifth position under the hashtag #London 2012.

Also causing a buzz on Google's social network is the software giant's NFC (Near Field Communication) cashless payment system, Google Wallet. On Wednesday Google released a cloud-based version of Google Wallet (formerly Google Checkout) which now allows people to use the system to shop in stores and online. The cloud-based version supports credit and debit cards from Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover and will compete with other forms of online payment systems such as Paypal.
