On January 22, the moon, in its waxing gibbous phase, was at its furthest point from the Earth, casting its light towards the planet Jupiter and leading the two planets to appear incredibly close together to observers in North America. The next time an illusion like this will occur will be in 2026.

Also causing a buzz on Google+ is Fox's new TV series "The Following," which premiered on Monday. "The Following" tells the story of former FBI agent Ryan Hardy (played by Kevin Bacon), whose life was effectively ruined in pursuit of a charismatic serial killer. Since leaving the force Hardy has fallen into alcohol abuse and on hard times, but the resurgence of the serial killer forces Hardy back into service, where he must confront his demons.

US President Barack Obama's inauguration ball is also causing a stir, with Google+ users talking about Jason Wu, the designer behind First Lady Michelle Obama's ball gown for the second time.
