Google+ trends: Johnny Depp splits with Vanessa Paradis, George Takei

Johnny Depp’s publicist revealed the separation was amicable but requested that media respect the couple’s privacy and “more importantly, the privacy of their children.”

Fans of the actor were shocked by the news and commented, “It's so sad and I hope the press will give them the space they deserve and leave any rumors of any third parties who may be 'involved' out of the equation.”

“I'm guessing this news will make a ‘few’ women happy,” joked others as posts began to read, “Dear +Johnny Depp, Now that you have publicly split with your girlfriend I would officially like to introduce myself and offer you my services of ‘Awesome Girlfriend’.”

Google+’ers desperately want Japanese American actor George Takei aka Star Trek’s Hikaru Sulu to join the social network. The actor’s fans declared June 19 “#TakeiTuesday” and have since been encouraging him to sign up to Google+.

“I know it's not #takeituesday any more, but if George Takei came over to Google + we'd all be doing the happy dance,” say Googlers. “Come on folks! Let's show +George Takei that Google+ wants him over here!!!!”

The Star Trek theme is interwoven with the #Geek hashtag with which G+’ers are trying to outdo each other with geek-themed posts. Popular #Geek posts include a photo of the interior of a car decked out with multiple games console controllers, the “ultimate” geek shirt, and a video of what Phi (the golden ratio) sounds like.
