Google+ trends: BCS National Championship, Huell Howser dies

Monday's American football competition, the BSC National Championship, the final game of the annual Bowl Championship series, saw Alabama beat Notre Dame 42-14.

The game accounts for two top trending topics, fourth-placed hashtag "BSCNationalChampionship" and fifth-placed "Notre Dame."

Google+ users are also mourning the death of American TV host Huell Howser. Howser was born in Tennessee but became known through a series of TV shows in the Golden State, most notably the travel show "California's Gold." Howser died aged 67 on January 6; his death was announced the following day.
