Google+ trends: apocalypse not yet materialized, 'X Factor' USA

Google+ users are taking a very tongue-in-cheek approach to the predicted end of the world, sharing fake gifs of destruction around the world, such as goo.gl/k6JQV and goo.gl/P6RNG, the latter of which features "Bullet Bill" from the Mario computer game series causing destruction. Others are posting news items relating to various end-of-the-world parties happening around the globe or sharing the news that they have, in fact, survived the apocalypse, should any of their followers be worried.

Also trending is "X Factor." The winner of the US version of the talent show was revealed last night in a thrilling finale which saw 37-year-old Tate Stevens walk away with a record contract worth $3 million.

Elsewhere on Google+, users are ignoring the end of the world and instead looking ahead to New Year's Eve, while others are sharing images of snowfalls in various parts of the world under "#Snow."

The top 5 most talked about topics on Google+ on December 21 at 10:00 AM GMT are:

01.  #EndOfTheWorld
