The idea behind this tiny and cheap computer for kids came in 2006, when Eben Upton and his colleagues at the University of Cambridge’s Computer Laboratory became concerned about the numbers of A-Level students applying to read Computer Science in each academic year.

Affordable and powerful enough to provide excellent multimedia, the design is desirable to children who might not initially be interested in a purely programming-oriented device.
