With press shots and details already out in the open thanks to detective work by the Wall Street Journal, Acer'€™s Iconia B1 will be taking the fight to Asus' ME172V. Priced at a mere $99, Acer is hoping it'€™ll help push it back up the tablet rankings after a poor 2012 which saw it lose ground to Asus.

The 7-inch tablet will have a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 1024 x 600 screen, which may not be that impressive to specs-fanatics, but should be ample for anyone looking to save money and jump on the tablet bandwagon.

One snag: it'€™s apparently only going to be sold in 'emerging markets'€™. Still, it should be enough to give key players like Amazon, Apple and Google a scare.
