Facebook users have consumed 210,000 years worth of music

By giving developers new tools, Facebook has been able to bring music, one of the last social elements missing from the site, to its 1 billion users, and the results have been staggering, according to figures published by Facebook on November 6.

8Tracks, the social Internet radio app, now counts Facebook as one of its major sources of referral traffic.
Since launching on the site, it has had 65 million story impressions and generates 4 million ‘likes' a week. The app enables users to select playlists based on their mood or by genre or artist.

Other apps to benefit from Facebook include BandPage -- which lets musicians manage their bios, music, videos and shows; KKBOX, which has seen over 50 million music shares to timeline since launching on the site; and SoundTracking -- a web and mobile app that can identify and share music being played around a user.

As well as new and emerging companies, Deezer, iHearRadio and Spotify have also experienced growing popularity on the site. Deezer alone is adding 50,000 new users a day.
