How often do you hear 'inspired by Formula 1'? It's a well-worn cliché. After all, we can all claim our beans on toast was inspired by a Michelin Star restaurant. Or our football skills were inspired by Cristiano Ronaldo. Putting a “Buzzin’ Hornets” sticker on a Honda Civic doesn’t make it inspired by F1.

Truth is, very few road cars can genuinely claim direct inspiration from Formula 1. Even the iconic McLaren F1 – despite its name and central driving position – was more Le Mans than Grand Prix.
