In a shock move last year, Britain's World Touring Car top dog Rob Huff (pictured above, right) revealed he’ll drive for Lada in the 2014 series. The 2012 champion who’s second in the all-time list of WTCC race winners with 24 victories will pilot a Lada Granta saloon. The racy Russian motor won’t be the first car that’s underwhelmed on the road, but managed to overwhelm rivals on track.

With former British touring car champ James Thompson at the wheel, the Lada has been inching its way up the WTCC grid. But it’s a far cry from its road-going cousin which in true budget car style is best described as basic. One Russian tester wrote: “Driving it is not bad but the interior leaves a lot to be desired.” Here is xinmsn Tech's guide to other rubbish cars which have gone on to become great racers.
