What to expect from the LG G3

Thanks to the nature of the internet, although the launch is still 24 hours away, an awful lot of details about the new phone have leaked, including a host of images. The snippets of info add up to a handset that will be high on specifications but ultimately focused on innovative features and things that could delight users.

For instance, it is set to have a huge 13-megapixel camera, but it will also employ lasers for auto focus, like a DSLR, to make sure it takes the perfect shot. One the other side, the front-facing camera responds to gestures. Clenching a fist will trigger the shutter, perfect for taking selfies and group shots.

Then there's the display, a huge 5.5-inch screen with extreme resolution -- 2560 x 1440 pixels: that works out to 538 pixels per inch or two times HD. It means that video playback and gaming will be incredibly rich. And as the handset has very little bezel and will feature operational buttons on its rear side, it should still be ok to use singlehandedly, even for owners with smaller fingers.

Also simplifying day-to-day use will be something called Knock Code. It's a feature that allows the owner to set a personalized knock as a passcode. Just tap the pattern or rhythm on the phone's front or rear and it will jump into action.

Following on from this, the handset is expected to be more contextually aware so that its menus, apps and screens are easier to navigate. It will be able to learn use patterns to offer owners access to the right things at the right time.

Hopefully all of the information hasn't already leaked and LG will still have some surprises left to reveal on Tuesday. The company has been enjoying a resurgence of late thanks to the strength of its outgoing flagship (the LG G2) and the fact that it makes the Nexus 5 handset.

They helped the company ship 12.3 million smartphones over the first quarter of 2014, re-establishing it as one of the top 5 phone makers in the world. LG will be hoping that its new handset helps it climb further up the rankings.
