Samsung tops Apple, Sony, HP as most preferred consumer electronics brand

Samsung was favored over other well known consumer electronics (CE) companies including Apple, Sony HP, Nokia, LG, Panasonic, Toshiba and Dell according to an index released by Strategy Analytics on June 6.

"Samsung has made a remarkable journey from no-name brand to global leader in less than 15 years," says David Mercer, principal analyst at Strategy Analytics and the report’s author. "In contrast to many of its competitors, Samsung’s popularity shows unusual consistency across geography, age and income groups and this suggests the company has a broad and balanced marketing strategy."

Forty-one percent of the more than six thousand respondents in the US and Europe said they probably or definitely would buy products made by Samsung.

Sony/Sony Ericsson was the second most popular brand at 29 percent and was followed by HP (20 percent), Apple (19 percent), LG (18 percent), Panasonic (14 percent), Nokia (10 percent), Phillips (9 percent), Toshiba (7 percent), Dell (7 percent) and Acer (3 percent).

Chinese CE manufacturer Lenovo was the least preferred brand in the index with 37 percent of respondents signaling that they probably or definitely would not buy technology products from the brand.

In September 2011, the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) said Apple had earned a record ACSI score of 87 (out of 100) in its PC consumer satisfaction ranking, continuing the company’s eight-year-straight lead over rivals such as HP (78), Dell (77), Acer (77), Toshiba (77), Lenovo (77), Sony (77) and Compaq (75).
