Polaroid could launch the world's first Android hybrid camera

Details have leaked on a Russian website of a Polaroid hybrid camera featuring interchangeable lenses, an 18-megapixel image sensor, a 3.5-inch touchscreen, Android operating system and built-in wi-fi and blink detection -- meaning that subjects in compositions will always be snapped with their eyes wide open. Other details about the Polaroid IM1836 are scarce but there's a strong possibility that the camera company intends to debut the new device at January's CES in Las Vegas.

Hybrid cameras, often also referred to as Mirrorless, or Micro Four Thirds cameras, are growing in popularity -- Nikon, Canon, Samsung, Olympus and Sony all have their own ranges of the devices -- and many in the industry believe that they will be the ‘next big thing' as they combine professional lenses and features with the same compact form and ease of use of a simple point-and-shoot camera.

If it is to be launched officially in January, the Polaroid IM1836 would become the first device in this camera category with an Android operating system.
