MWC 2013: Sony
Sony made the bold decision of unveiling its first 2013 flagship smartphone of 2013 at CES back in January. The waterproof Xperia Z is certainly attracting plenty of positive press and we’d be surprised if the company upsurges the handset just a month or so after it was announced.
However, a mid-tier handset, dubbed the Sony Xperia SP is likely to land. Rumoured to have a 4.6-inch display and a 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, the SP won’t have the Full HD display of the Z, instead it will feature a 720p one.
MWC should also see the official European launch of the super-skinny Sony Xperia Tablet Z – a device that went live in Japan earlier this month. The Tablet Z has a 1920 x 1200 HD display and is powered by a Qualcomm 1.5GHz quad-core processor. Its USP is its build though – measuring just 6.9mm thin and weighing less than 500g.
Elsewhere, Sony could also take the covers off of a Samsung Galaxy Note-rivalling 6.4-inch ‘phablet’.
