Modbook launches a 13-inch tablet that's as powerful as a notebook

If you can't decide between a seven-inch or 10-inch tablet and are worried that neither will give you the same creative performance or power that a notebook can deliver, how about a 13-inch tablet that boasts the same performance and power of an Apple MacBook Pro notebook?

The brainchild of Andreas E. Haas, the Modbook Pro is aimed primarily at users in the creative industries and is designed to work like a graphics tablet, via a stylus which is responsive to 1,024 levels of pressure sensitivity (twice the sensitivity of any graphics tablet currently available). Able to boot and run in both OSX and Windows, it has a 13.3-inch display with a 1280x800 pixel resolution and the same choice of 2.5GHz dual core Intel Core i5 or 2.9GHz dual core i7 processor found in the notebook on which it's based, as well as USB, Firewire and external monitor ports, plus a CD/DVD burner, a 120GB solid state hardrive and 8GB of RAM plus a seven-hour battery life. This base model can be custom configured for up to 16GB of RAM and a 480GB solid state hard drive.

At 24.5 x 35.2 x 2.37cm and weighing 2.51kg it won't slip easily into a pocket but will drop into a standard notebook bag and its aluminium shell will protect it from knocks and scratches.

Prices start at $3400. The Modbook Pro is available to order now and the first tablets are expected to ship before the end of November.
