Lenovo launches contract- and dongle-free Mobile Access for PCs in USA & Europe

Lenovo Mobile Access allows users to connect to the web without a dongle, WiFi connection or tethered mobile. It’s available on selected Lenovo PCs in the company’s ThinkPad line and is available now in the US and nine countries throughout Europe.

"We live in a world where it's not only undesirable to be without online access, it's often disruptive to businesses. For that reason we wanted to create a flexible mobile broadband solution that would be unparalleled in its ability to help business users stay connected and working," said Dilip Bhatia, vice president and general manager, ThinkPad Business Unit, Lenovo. "Fundamentally, Lenovo Mobile Access gives individual and corporate customers options to determine how, when and where they want to connect with online applications and services, all at a price that fits their budget."

The service is powered by cloud-based platform Macheen Inc., and is flexible enough to cater for travelers or customers who want pay-as-you-go internet options.

VoIP company Skype now has more than one million wireless hotspots all over the globe where you can connect to the internet via Skype WiFi and pay per minute used, however, at around 14c/min ($4.2/hour) it works out to be more expensive in most situations.

Lenovo Mobile Access pricing starts at $1.95 for 30 minutes or $8.95 per day. There are also monthly plans with bigger data caps for more frequent users.

The service is available for users with selected ThinkPad Classic and ThinkPad Edge laptops equipped with a 3G module. It’s limited to users living in or traveling to the United States, UK, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Austria, Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands.
