Captions, hastags and geotag

Once you've taken your snap and you're happy with it, you're taken to a screen to add a caption. Here you're able to describe the photo and also add hashtags that people may search for through an Instagram search. This is good if you want people who don't necessarily follow you to find your image, though this won't work if your profile is set to private. You can also geotag your photos as well (people can search for snaps based on location too).
