Buying a compact system camera, or CSC, could be the way to go if you’re looking for top quality images, but don’t want the bulk that comes with buying a DSLR. You still get the flexibility of being able to swap lenses, while a beefy sensor will offer crisp and clear images.

CSCs come with a raft of manual controls, but at the same time, everything is shoehorned inside an eye-catching compact casing. That means a CSC is invariably easier to lug around. What’s more, many come complete with a ready-to-go kit lens, meaning that you can be up and running in a matter of minutes.

Models are now available from a variety of the big name manufacturers too, so if you’ve got brand allegiances then there’s something for everyone. We’ve picked through what’s on offer and collected ten of the current best examples of this great new concept in picture-taking.
