Apple introduces iPhone 5

A little competition never seems to hurt when it comes to technological advancements we suppose? Looks like Samsung GALAXY S III's strongest contender -- the Apple iPhone 5 is set to launch real soon.

And as anticipation gathers for the arrival of the thinnest and lightest iPhone yet, let us take a quick look at the new four-inch Retina display and some other highlights of the phone.

Coming with iOS 6, the iPhone 5 promises to deliver better battery life, with over 200 new features in (currently) the most advanced mobile operating system. Well, for one, it's good to hear that there's an Apple-designed cartography and turn-by-turn navigation, that's if it works as well as it's described.

"iPhone 5 is the most beautiful consumer device that we’ve ever created," said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. And we'll all be able to find out soon enough.

Latest iPhone is the thinnest and lightest yet, with a 4-inch display

The current thinnest smartphone in the world, iPhone 5 is at only 7.6 millimetres thin, combining an anodized aluminum body with diamond cut chamfered edges and glass inlays for a classy finish.

If you've not already heard, with that four-inch Retina display, we can expect more pixels, taller screen, optimized content, widescreen HD video, a full five days of your Calendar and more of every web page.

Some other highlights include:

A unique single-radio LTE solution that supports ultra-fast wireless standards.

A redesigned eight-megapixel iSight camera for clearer images and even panorama images of up to 28 megapixels.

New video features include improved stabilization, video face detection for up to 10 faces and the ability to take still photos as you record.

A new FaceTime HD front facing camera which can also be used for self portraits and recording 720p HD video.

iPhone 5 comes in either white and silver or black and slate, and will be available in the US for a suggested retail price of US$199 for the 16GB model and US$299 for the 32GB model and US$399 for the 64GB model on 21 September 2012.
