Superstorm Sandy began as a hurricane that hit the Caribbean in late October 2012, before moving up the east coast of the United States. Over 250 people were killed along the path of the storm in seven countries. Astronauts on board the International Space Station tweeted images of Sandy, including Sunita Williams, who sent the message: "Hope everyone is doing ok with the storm. Saw #Sandy on our flight path yesterday. From our vantage point #ISS".
