Van Helsing trailer shows monster-hunting gameplay

Based as it is on Bram Stoker's "Dracula," with players ensuring that Van Helsing's son successfully vanquishes the Count's countless minions, the latest "The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing" gameplay trailer shows distinct leanings towards several other successful action games.

Its elevated perspective combined with a fantasy setting are, together, no stranger to those familiar with "Diablo III" and its classic forebears, as well as other staples of the action role-playing game genre: "Titan Quest," "Torchlight," the "Dungeon Siege" games and the pair of "Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance" titles.

Still, for a tie-in, it's an unusual genre pick, but Hungarian developer Neocore has demonstrated a taste for the unexpected -- its take on the legend of King Arthur has already resulted in a selection of tactical wargames whose meat and bones focus not so much on Arthur himself but on controlling legions and armies in battle against increasingly, wonderfully macabre hordes.

"The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing" is expected on PC and Xbox 360; its release date is yet to be announced.
