'Tiny Wings 2' coming to App Store and...mini music box?

Using a $15 music box kit, a homemade music sheet, and a hand-drawn Tiny Wings background, the first trailer for Andreas Illiger's Tiny Wings 2 demonstrates the innovation and simplicity that helped turn its predecessor into a hit.

The February 2011 game Tiny Wings was warmly recieved at a time when it seemed that nothing could knock Angry Birds from its App Store perch.

Players guide a small, flightless bird as it slides down a sequence of rolling switchback hills, using a swipe of the screen to leap high into the air and above the clouds.

Each day, the game was given a new look, and special challenges kept dedicated players coming back for more.

It was based on Box2D, the same straightforward, free software package that powers Angry Birds, Crayon Physics Deluxe and Limbo.

Tiny Wings 2 is aiming for App Store lift off on July 12.
