'The Elder Scrolls Online' announces beta sign-up with cinematic trailer
The Elder Scrolls series of role-playing games have been steadfastly single-player expeditions, including 2011's "Game of Thrones" zeitgeist-riding "Skyrim," but now "The Elder Scrolls Online" publisher Bethesda is allowing players to lead the series into the realms of multiplayer adventuring.
As such, the PC and Mac game's cinematic trailer introduces each of three key alliances that players can join: the Aldmeri (elves and cat-people), the Ebonhearts (Nords, dark elves and reptilians), and the Daggerfall (humans akin to Western Europeans and sub-Saharan Africans, plus orcs).
Would-be beta testers are encouraged to indicate which of the many other massively multiplayer online games they have experience with, from fellow high fantasy titles like "Lord of the Rings Online," "World of Warcraft" and "Guild Wars 2" to the sci-fi themed "Star Wars: The Old Republic" and "EVE Online," and super-powered romps "DC Universe Online" and "City of Heroes."
Beta events are scheduled to start "in the weeks and months to follow," and the trial will support play in English, French and German.
