It's to be the first edition of a planned annual tournament set in Los Angeles, with the PlayStation 3 version of PS3 and Xbox 360 download Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown selected as sanctioned game.

Sega picked California's Super Arcade for hosting duties, the same spot that fellow publisher Atlus chose for its Atlus Fighting Championships in November (featuring King of Fighters XIII and Persona 4 Arena) and that hosted qualifiers for Japan's premiere fighting game tournament, Super Battle Opera.

April gives ample time for aficionandos to warm up for the US circuit's main event mid-July, EVO 2013 in Las Vegas, whose core competition featured Virtua Fighter 5 in 2007.

Not only that, but April will be the same month that Warner Bros' well anticipated fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us is to launch, having been in development at Mortal Kombat studio NetherRealm.
