'Resident Evil 6' lets you play as zombies, Ada Wong
Despite the conceptual similarity, it's less like Gears of War 3's Beast Mode, which lets players attempt to overrun the game's computer-controlled heroes, and more like a cross between Left 4 Dead's Versus modes, in which players split off into teams of gun-toting human survivors and infected mutants, and Dark Souls' online invasion mechanic, making players increasingly vulnerable to attack from fellow adventurers.
Resident Evil 6's alternative Agent Mode is one of the perks that become available upon completion of the game. Those choosing to become part of Resi's monstrous horde can communicate and coordinate their attacks, while whoever's playing the hero character will receive a warning that they are now another player's prey.
A second treat for completionists is the ability to play through again as secret agent Ada Wong. The crossbow-wielding specialist ties up the loose ends left behind by RE6's three primary characters, Leon, Chris and new boy Jake.
Both details were revealed by Japanese games magazine Famitsu. Resident Evil 6 is set for an Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 release on October 2.
