'Metal Gear Rising' trailer is all action

The new Metal Gear Rising trailer isn't going to apologize for that uncharacteristic direction -- not until it's chopped your head off three times, anyway.

Cybernetic special agent Raiden is central to proceedings here, as a post-human super soldier whose high frequency blade is capable of slicing through flesh, rock, and in one scene, a helicopter.

Much of the content reflects the previous work of developer Platinum Games: the gore of Mad World, the fast-paced fighting of Vanquish, the elegance and precision of Bayonetta.

As ridiculous as Raiden's abilities are, the seriousness of Metal Gear's fiction somehow prevents Rising from becoming an all-out parody.

Instead, the online comedians of Mega64 weighed in with an insight into Raiden's temp job hell as a childrens' party entertainer, plumber, chef, and dog walker.

In a callback to 2001's Zone of the Enders, which contained a demo for Metal Gear Solid 2, the fall 2012 Zone of the Enders HD Collection will come bundled with an early-access demo for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

While Zone of the Enders HD is expected before the end of the year, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is targeting an early 2013 release.
