The last time I went to the Rockstar Games office, I got a chance to play through a portion of Max Payne 3's single player campaign. That was an experience that I enjoyed.

This time around, I spent about an hour testing out the game's multiplayer portion.

I'll admit, I was skeptical at first, because Max Payne has always been known as a single player franchise. I was worried that they were tacking on multiplayer just to appease the modern gaming audience.

After our demo session, I'm convinced of two things. First, they DID add multiplayer to appeal to a broader audience. Second, the multiplayer modes are fun enough to draw a dedicated fan base.

There are three multiplayer modes that will come at release: Team Deathmatch (TDM), Payne Killer, and Gang Wars. There will also be customization options that will help you shape the type of character you play in Max Payne 3, which will keep many players grinding away for experience.

Max Payne 3 arrives on the Xbox 360 and PS3 on May 18th, and on PC in early June.
