'Guild Wars 2' given August 28 release date

The sequel to 2005 release Guild Wars, this year's Guild Wars 2 will likewise forgo a traditional monthly subscription fee.

Instead, players can opt in to the game's internal currency systems, using real money to buy gems, which can then be traded for other items or an in-game currency -- a system that Mike O'Brien of developer ArenaNet likened to that of the successful subscription-driven EVE Online.
