'Call of Duty Online' announced for China
As is standard for free-to-play games, Call of Duty Online will be supported by voluntary payments made by players in exchange for additional in-game items.
In Call of Duty Online, that means personalized weapons, characters and equipment, with enhancements to weaponry, gear and perks available for purchase.
Scenes from the game's debut trailer suggest that Call of Duty Online's ties to the Modern Warfare sub-series currently manifest themselves in the form of levels based on Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer modes.
Tencent is already running a veritable army of shooters for Chinese players, including Alliance of Valiant Arms, CrossFire, and the Crytek-developed Warface.
Call of Duty Online will be going up against these and a number of other first person shooters from competing companies, such as Counter-Strike Online, Battlefield Online, and Mission Against Terror.
