'Call of Duty: Black Ops II' trailer offers glimpse of bad guy

Menendez is presented as a media mastermind, beloved by the public, at least up until the moment when he orchestrates a devastating attack on the USA.

He's also being set up as a long-term rival for Frank Woods, one of the main characters from 2010 series entry Black Ops, and there's already a fledgling YouTube channel dedicated to propaganda from Menendez's organization, Cordis Die.

With the game set in the 1980s Cold War era as well as a near future 2025, the change in tack enables Black Ops II to investigate the rise of the Contras, Nicaragua's revolutionary forces.

Indeed, the new theme is supported by Activision's use of former USMC officer Oliver North as a consultant, given the Lieutenant Colonel's high-profile entanglement with the late 1980s' Iran-Contra affair.
