'Assassin's Creed III' trailer: What if Washington were the maddest king?

In general, the Assassin's Creed series has preferred to wind its conspiratorial backstory around historical record -- the Third Crusade in Syria and Israel, Renaissance era happenings in Italy and Turkey, and the American Revolution.

For The Tyranny of King Washington, however, the storyline splits from established fact, as current hero Connor sets off after one-time ally George Washington, whose lust for power has turned him from noble leader into twisted megalomaniac.

That's the sort of fictive departure more commonly associated with the pleasingly bizarre setup of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, in which Einstein had been eliminated by a time-traveling Soviet agent, and David Hasselhoff appeared as the US's Vice President.
